The honest comparison

Sometimes another tool is enough. Here is how to tell.

A comparison written by the people who sell one of the tools is suspect by construction. So this one names what the others do better, and when you should not pay us.

Versus YNAB

YNAB is excellent at one thing: the envelope method, taught with discipline. If you live in the United States and want a budgeting coach in English, it is a fine choice.

From Canada, the friction adds up: billed in US dollars (109 USD a year at the time of writing, September 2026 — roughly 150 $ CA once converted), an interface in English only, and bank connections built US-first. YNAB budgets; it does not follow your investments, your debts’ payoff order, or your retirement projection.

Yoseri keeps the envelope method — and adds the rest of your money: accounts, net worth, investments, debt, retirement, in Canadian dollars, at 89.90 $ CA a year. French, English and Spanish are equals.

Versus Mint

There is no versus: Intuit shut Mint down in early 2024 and pointed its users to Credit Karma. Mint’s model — free, funded by ads and product placement — is exactly the model Yoseri refuses: when the tool is free, your attention and your data are the product. Yoseri charges a subscription and sells nothing else. That is the trade.

Versus your spreadsheet

If your spreadsheet works — you update it, you trust it, it answers your questions — keep it. Seriously. A tool you actually maintain beats a subscription you ignore.

Where it breaks: the Tuesday you stop pasting transactions in, the market prices that go stale, the recurring charge that slips through, the version your partner cannot open. That upkeep is precisely what Yoseri automates — and the manual mode is free, forever, so switching costs nothing to try.

Versus your bank’s app

Your bank’s app is very good at your bank. It will never show the account you hold elsewhere, the card from the other institution, or your brokerage side by side — and it has products to sell you on every screen. Yoseri’s job is the opposite: every institution in one statement, and nothing for sale.

What Yoseri does not do — on purpose

  • No investment advice, ever. Yoseri measures and shows; the decision is yours alone.
  • No trading. Read-only means Yoseri could not place an order even if you asked.
  • No cashback, no partner offers, no “better rate” recommendations paid by a third party.
  • No made-up numbers — on this page included. The prices above carry their date; if they drift, tell us and we fix the page.
