How to read the market
The US Open — the season's final Grand Slam, a 128-player hard-court draw in New York from late August — opens its outright market in the summer, and it's one of the cleaner futures to read: a handful of genuine contenders, then a long tail of names priced on hope.
The discipline is the same as anywhere. Turn the price into a probability — decimal prices of 2.75 imply about 36% (1 ÷ 2.75) — and only act when your own read is more generous than that. Tennis outrights reward line-shopping: the same player can differ meaningfully across brokers, so the closing price you get matters as much as the pick. And the deep longshots carry the familiar favourite–longshot tax — the dream of a shock winner is almost always overpriced.
